Geotex 1201

This thick non-woven geotextile fabric provides heightened durability and reduces the potential for tearing during installation. It can be combined with hard armoring systems to address the need for nontraditional markets. GEOTEX 1201 is made in the USA, offering an improved hydraulic ability to create less resistance during installation. The polypropylene material will resist break down in water, preserving the integrity of the installation.

Case Study: Using GEOTEX 1201 For Shore Protection In Brevard County

Brevard County needed help to correct its eroding beaches and dunes caused by hurricanes. Engineers came up with a plan to construct artificial reefs to lessen the impact on the shorelines by hurricanes. The rectangular pieces were 8x 5-feet concrete mats embedded with coquina rock and a layer of Propex GEOTEX 1201 non-woven geotextile as a separator and filter between the ocean floor and the mats.

The GEOTEX 1201 was tied to the mats using wire and then held down by the weight of the mats, once installed. The mats are assembled on a barge before a crane would place the mats in 40-feet of water approximately a half-mile offshore. The divers would install the mats on the ocean floor. This project is a 2-year plan to rebuild the weakened shoreline.

Geotex Installation on Roadway

Geotex 1201 Installation

In A Nutshell

Artificial reefs were made up of concrete mats embedded with coquina rock with a layer of GEOTEX 1201 on the bottom. The engineers focused on solving the problem of erosion of the beaches from hurricanes.

The Installation Process

The cranes picked up the 8 x 12-foot rectangular segment and lowered it into the water and then divers placed it on the ocean floor.

Its Performance

The artificial reefs reduced erosion caused by hurricanes along the shoreline.

The Features And Benefits

The plan provided a separator and filter to reduce the erosion beneath the hard armoring system.
