The Permanent Erosion Control blanket is the ideal long-term erosion control solution. These durable Nylon fused monofilament mesh rolls are UV stabilized and stand up to sun exposure and outdoor elements.

This erosion control mat is a 3D structured mesh for grass and plant vegetation roots to grow through and take hold. The purpose of the blanket is to provide time and space for roots to grow into a network that will intertwine through the matting and soil. Once plants can grow without being washed away the embankment will be at less risk of erosion.

EnkaMat erosion blankets are installed on the hillside or embankments and then filled with soil and seed to speed up the root development. Eventually, the grass and plants will grow through the matting, and it will become less visible as the grass grows through the nylon fibers.

What Is a Permanent Erosion Control Blanket?

A Permanent Erosion Control Blanket is a geosynthetic material used to reinforce soil and vegetation. Also called a Turf Reinforcement Mat, TRMs are made from various materials, including synthetic fibers, geotextiles, and geogrids. They are often used in areas with a high risk of soil erosion, such as slopes and riverbanks.

You can also use TRMs to reinforce grassy areas subject to high wear and tear levels. In addition, you can use TRMs to repair existing areas of erosion.

Tip: If site access is an issue we also offer Heavy duty construction mats with an interlocking panel system designed to create a portable roadway.

When Should You Use a TRM?

You should use TRMs in any situation where there is a risk of soil erosion. This includes areas subject to high rainfall levels, fast-flowing water, or high winds.

In a nutshell, here are a few ways to tell if your project requires the use of TRMs:

  • There is a risk of soil erosion: TRMs can help prevent soil erosion by interlocking with the soil particles and plant roots.
  • The area is subject to high rainfall levels: TRMs can help dissipate flowing water's energy, protecting the soil from erosion.
  • There is a risk of wind damage: TRMs can help protect the soil from high winds.
  • There is a risk of wind damage: TRMs can help protect the soil from high winds.

The Benefits of TRMs

There are many benefits to using TRMs, including:

  • Reduced soil erosion: TRMs can help reduce soil erosion by interlocking with the soil particles and plant roots.
  • Increased plant growth: The open structure of TRMs allows water and air to flow freely through it, ensuring the roots get the moisture and oxygen they need to stay healthy.
  • Improved aesthetics: TRMs can help improve the appearance of an area by preventing the formation of bare patches of soil.

How Long Do Turf Reinforcement Mats Last?

Turf reinforcement mats last anywhere from 36 months to a lifetime. They are made from durable materials that can withstand UV light, and harsh weather conditions. Because of that, TRMs are considered a long-term solution for erosion control.

However, the lifespan of a turf reinforcement mat will depend on several factors, including:

  • The type of TRM: The different types of TRMs have different lifespans. For example, coir mats have a shorter lifespan than polypropylene mats.
  • The climate: The climate in your area will also affect the lifespan of your TRM. For example, if you live in an area with harsh winters or frequent hurricanes, your TRM will have a shorter lifespan than if you live in a milder climate.
